Apple announces the HomePod

Apple’s long-rumoured Amazon Echo competitor has finally been revealed. Named HomePod, the Apple speaker will be focused on music first, rather than an integration with Siri. The device can play podcasts, give you news, weather, traffic, sport, set a reminder, let you talk to someone with messages, and you can speak to your HomePod and to control your home devices. HomePod is shipping later this year to Australia, US and the UK. It’s going to cost $349.

Google's Bart Jenniches exits for US role

After more than seven years at Google Australia, Bart Jenniches has accepted a new role to head of advertising for Daydream at Google’s head office in Mountain View, US. He will help define Google’s AR/VR relationship with partner brands and agencies. His most recent role was industry director for auto, CPG and media and entertainment, as well as the leading Google's brand business. Google Australia and New Zealand’s head of brand advertising, Richard Wolstenholme, will take on Jenniches' role. Wolstenholme has been with Google since 2011 and will transition into his new role from 1 July.

McCann QLD hires MD

McCann Queensland has promoted Phillippa Netolicky from GM to managing director. Since joining in January 2016, she has increased full time staff by 200%. Netolicky joined McCann in 2010 as art director and has worked her way up the ropes, being promoted to creative director in 2012.

Time Out Group acquires Time Out Australia

Time Out Group has acquired its licensing partner that currently publishes Time Out in five cities across Australia, Print and Digital Publishing Pty Ltd. Time Out Group CEO Julio Bruno says all employees will continue to have jobs within the new venture and will remain in their current offices in Sydney. Time Out’s Australian franchise sold a majority share to Intermedia Group in 2009. Intermedia no longer has a stake in Time Out’s Australian operations.
