Cannes Young Lions jurors announced (28/04/2017)

The jurors for the Australian Cannes Young Lions have been named by News Corp. News Corp is the official representative of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Australia.

News Corp Australia’s chief marketing officer Tony Phillips said: “It’s great to have such a talented bunch of industry leaders represent Australia at the world’s most creative festival. To be so well represented across so many categories proves the calibre of our creative talent in this country.”

Google and Facebook take 99% of digital revenue growth

Google's dominance in digital is almost absolute, according to an analysis by Pivotal Research. Business Insider is reporting that 99% of revenue growth in digital came through Facebook and Google last year, after seeing the analyst note. It means that growth for almost every other digital platform is negligent. Pivotal analysed IAB numbers in the US, noting the internet ad industry grew by 21.8% to US$72.5 billion. Brian Wieser, senior analyst and author of the report told Business Insider: "The big point is that if Google and Facebook are the primary interfaces to buyers, over the long-run they own the relationships and the related data. Every partner they work with is subservient.”

DT managing director John Du Vernet exits, replaced by Tony Vella

John Du Vernet has announced his departure from DT following its acquisition by global network AKQATony Vella, currently operations director at the agency, will step up to replace Du Vernet as MD. Vella has been at the agency for six years. Du Vernet begun in the managing director role at DT less than a year ago, joining from Tongue. Last year, Tongue folded into as part of a consolidation process under the STW and WPP merger.

Mondelez global CMO departs

Dana Anderson the global CMO and senior vice president of Mondelez, which owns brands including Cadbury and Oreo, has stepped down to take up a role at MediaLink. Anderson has been with Mondelez since 2009, before the company split out of Kraft. Her departure comes six months after global head of content and media monetization Laura Henderson left Mondelez to join BuzzFeed as its top marketer. Mondelez also named Stefania Gvillo, who joins from PepsiCo as global head of strategic insights.

IAB launches data handbook to join the dots

IAB Australia has launched a Digital Data Best Practice Handbook to help publishers, agencies and marketers “join the data dots”. Its aim is to help members better understand how to use first, second and third party digital data. It was produced buy the IAB's technology council and covers the basics of collecting, storing and managing data, advantages of using data to inform creative campaigns, and making sure you have the right data skills. Jonas Jaanimagi, IAB executive consultant and co-chair of the technology council, says: “Having a simple plan around what you and your business intends to achieve by being more data-driven is critical, whether you are a publisher, marketer or agency.”
