New outdoor player enters Australia

Smartbox, the vending machine with digital and social media capabilities, has arrived in Australia.

The vending machine, replete with digital automated screen in lieu of glass front, aims to improve UX while also providing consumer insights to proprietors.

Conceived by Australian automated retail solutions company SVA Vending, the automat is available in two formats. The large (55 inches) and smaller (32 inches) screen dimensions are designed to slot into multiple locations including schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, factories and transport hubs.

Smartbox believes that employing the sense of touch at point of sale will build trust in the shopping experience, with brick and mortar vendors and the Smartbox model.

The digitised screen touchpoint combines sampling and point of sale, rich data capture and wifi capabilities while gamifying the customer experience.

Smartbox believes that the vending machines, equipped with fully automated and digitised screens, will bring new life to the out of home market, which has faced mass consolidation this year. The recent large scale mergers between Ooh Media and Adshel and APN and JCDecaux have arguably homogenised a previously more disparate market.

“To overcome consumers, advertisers and agencies’ skepticism, putting brands in hands is the value proposition that Smartbox brings to market,” Smartbox founder and CEO Navdeep Tuteja said.

Smartbox is currently running campaigns across NSW trains and other locations in both Melbourne and Sydney, currently operating to an excess of 200 assets.
