SYDNEY: Network Ten is set to launch a new youth-oriented digital channel called Eleven, which will air The Simpsons and Dexter.
The launch will be backed by a content partnership with CBS Studios International that will establish a new joint venture called ElevenCo Pty Limited, to provide content to Eleven.
Network Ten will hold two-thirds equity in ElevenCo, with CBS holding the remainder one-third. Eleven will be the exclusive free-to-air broadcaster of The Simpsons. The channel will also showcase demographically-targeted international programs including The Office, Dexter, Futurama, Nurse Jackie and The Cleveland Show.
As part of the proposed agreement with CBS, Eleven will have access to more than 70,000 hours of programming from CBS's library, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, MacGyver and Happy Days.
Network Ten chief executive Grant Blackley, said: “Eleven will deliver a distinct destination for Australian consumers and advertisers. The channel’s ‘distinctly youthful’ focus will be well suited to fostering a strong level of online community and social media engagement.
"Importantly, the joint venture will ensure long term continuity of this prolific US content pipeline, underpinning the sustainability of Eleven and also delivering continued supply of high quality international programming for Ten."
CBS Studios International president Armando Nunez, said: "It is a partnership that expands an already terrific relationship with leading player in this important television market, while establishing more opportunities world-class content to serve audiences and advertisers across Australia."
The proposed joint venture is subject to approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board. If successful, Eleven will be broadcast in standard definition from early 2011.
