Aimee Buchanan to take the reins as CEO of OMD Australia

Aimee Buchanan is the new CEO of OMD Australia, following Peter Horgan's promotion to CEO of the Omnicom Media Group Australia and New Zealand in July. The promotion is effective immediately.
Buchanan, who has more than 16 years of media experience in the Australian market, had been MD of OMD Australia for more than two years, and was GM for nearly two years prior to that. Read more here.

Gai Le Roy returns to the IAB Australia

More than a year after stepping down from the organisation, Gai Le Roy is set to return to the IAB as its research director.
Le Roy, who previously held the research director role for two years, will again lead the IAB’s research activities to ensure the industry body is across media consumption changes and the evolving commercial measurement options, while overseeing the industry’s adoption of cross media measurement. Kate de Brito named editor-in-chief of news.com.au

Kate de Brito has been named as the editor-in-chief of news.com.au after making a surprise exit from Mamamia. She had been the Mamamia editor-in-chief for less than a year. De Brito replaces current editor Daniel Sankey who has been promoted to a new role to identify and develop opportunities for audience and commercial growth in digital sport and wagering information. As de Brito exits, Mamamia shakes up its structure. Read more here.

Nine.com.au managing editor Emma Chamberlain resigns

The managing editor of Nine's online portal Emma Chamberlain has stepped down and will not be replaced, AdNews understands. Chamberlain helped launch the rebrand of nine.com.au in July and has held senior online editorial roles at Nine Entertainment for more than a decade. More recently, she was instrumental in launching several key verticals, including 9Honey, 9Pickle, 9Coach, 9Elsewhere and 9Kitchen. Read more. 

Vivaki director to lead Woolworths at Carat

Carat Sydney strengthens its senior investment team on key account Woolworths with the appointment of Georga Payne. Reporting to Carat chief investment officer Ashley Earnshaw, Payne’s new role is head of investment across the Woolworths account - Carat’s largest client nationally. Payne has more than 16 years of media experience, working previously as investment director at VivaKi and at ZenithOptimedia on the Telstra and Nestle accounts, among others. 

Ogilvy Melbourne appoints head of digital

Ogilvy Melbourne has appointment Alistair Bruyns as its head of digital. With over 16 years of digital experience across Europe, North America and Africa, Bruyns has held digital roles at Y&R, Saatchi & Saatchi and worked across brands including Pizza Hut, Olay, Toyota, Vodafone and Citibank.

MEC poaches Initiative director to lead programmatic

Initiative's Greg Cattelain will return to MEC to take up the newly created role of programmatic and social director. Cattelain, currently digital client director at the IPG Mediabrands agency, will be tasked with managing MEC’s programmatic buying and cross-channel marketing services on behalf of a growing number of clients. Cattelain first joined MEC Australia three years ago and helped set up the agency’s real-time bidding and social media department in Sydney. He rose to senior digital manager before moving to Initiative in September 2015. He begins his new position on Monday and will report to MEC Australia Head of Performance Miki Clarke. Read More.

Carat hires head of innovation from Isobar

Carat Australia has hired Rob Tilt in the newly-created role head of innovation. Tilt joins from fellow Dentsu Aegis Network digital creative agency Isobar, where he was interactive lead, managing clients including ANZ, Foxtel, PayPal and David Jones. Tilt will be tasked with "bringing a fresh perspective to solving the client challenges" and reports to chief digital officer Sarah James. Read More.

Open Colleges names CMO

Online education provider, Open Colleges, has named Matt Hill as its new chief marketing officer. Hill steps into this new role with more than 13 years of marketing and communications experience, taking the reins from Kevin Lynch, who is now acting as chief operating officer of the organisation, owned by The Apollo Education Group. Hill joined Open Colleges in February 2013 as head of brand and communications after a role in London for American Express UK. In his role as CMO, Hill will be responsible for leading the digital marketing strategy for Open Colleges and driving positive student outcomes. 

Pacific Magazines restructures commercial sales team

Pacific Magazines has restructured its sales team as the first move by newly inducted CEO Gereurd Roberts. Roberts says the changes are the “cornerstone of growth and transformation” for the business now it has redefined its digital commercial partnership with Yahoo7. PacMags will now offer a total network approach with teams selling across the whole portfolio of the publisher’s assets. New teams have been created across strategy and solutions, client services and commercial operations. New hires include former Nova digital commercial director Nicole Bence and former NewsLifeMedia sales operations manager Roslyn Batty.
