Peter Butler will head up the Melbourne office.

Starcom Mediavest Group Australia will open a Melbourne office in January of next year.

The media agency, which brought in clients including Diageo, Canon and Hachette Partworks into its portfolio this year, has appointed Peter Butler, ex-IPG Brands, as its managing director for the Victorian office.

Simultaneously, Sue Squillace has been promoted from general manager to managing director, Mediavest Australia.

Starcom Mediavest Group Australia CEO, Chris Nolan said: "The Mediavest launch in Melbourne is a continuation of the growth and diversification of the Starcom Mediavest Group, designed to deliver close collaboration and personalised service across our client and publisher partners. Congratulations to both and thank you to Sue for her continued success with SMG and on this promotion."

Squillance credited the company's collaborative approach to working with key partners such as Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi and Kontented with helping it to pick up new opportunities and expand into Melbourne.

“We are thrilled about this next phase for Mediavest and I am confident Peter’s expertise in media and creative agencies make him the perfect partner to support our proposition, our clients and also accelerate further growth. We’re extremely pleased he has chosen to join Mediavest,” Squillance said.

Butler, who joins Mediavest after having served as managing director of IPG Brands Melbourne, said his work in both creative and media agencies has shown him that Mediavest's collaborative work is the way forward.

“As the challenge to connect with consumers intensifies, a shared strategic approach that combines insight and creativity, alongside technology and data, will ensure brands are relevant and noticed,” he said.

His appointment is effective January 2016.
