Peugeot is renowned for its engineering, powering Formula One cars, winning Le Mans twice and the World Rally Championship manufacturer's title five times.

MediaCom has won the Peugeot Citroën's media buying and planning account in Australia after a global review, AdNews can confirm. The business only covers the manufacturer and not its dealer network, which continues to be served by Vizeum.

The French car manufacturer spends about $1.3 billion on media globally, according to RECMA figures.

Europe's third-largest car company is owned by PSA Group. It will soon welcome General Motors German brand Opel to its production line.

The global pitch was managed from PSA's Paris headquarters with limited input from Australia. All agencies AdNews approached declined to comment.

For MediaCom, it's another win for an agency that has recently bolstered its leadership team with the promotion of Mike Deane to chief strategy officer and Willie Pang to COO.

Late last year, MediaCom consolidated media buying and planning for News Corp and Mars. Long-standing client Carlton United Breweries is under review as part of the agency shake-up from Ab-InBev's acquisition of SAB Miller. Earlier this year, MediaCom lost Pizza Hut to Initiative.
