Rinehart to buy Fairfax?
Gina Rinehart whose company Hancock Prospecting has a 14.99% stake in Fairfax Media is allegedly considering buying the media company if she can find the right leaders to run the business, The Australian reports.

Netflix negotiates
US streaming giant Netflix has begun negotiating rights to bring the service to Australia in the first confirmation of the company’s local launch The Australian reports. However according to The Australian Netflix has encountered an “aggressive” Australian market that might not be as amenable to the service as expected.

Nine buys into Quickflix
Nine Entertainment Co has bought a minority stake in DVD distribution and streaming business Quickflix in another sign the broadcaster hopes to bolster its digital entertainment operations, The Australian Financial Review reports. In a deal that reportedly took place on Friday, Nine is reported to have paid just under $1 million for the stake, which converts into an 8% share in Quickflix.

Seven grows
Seven Network’s Angus Ross told The AFR that the strong performance of House Rules and softer ratings from rival Nine Network’s The Voice has helped Seven boost its audience share in the age demographics that attract lucrative advertising dollars. The network highlighted that its prime time audience share for 25-54 year olds is up by 1.3 points to 31.5% in the first half of the year.

Audi partners with BBC First
Also in The AFR, BBC Worldwide has signed up Audi as the official launch partner for its forthcoming drama and comedy Foxtel channel, BBC First, which launches on August 3. The channel which is touting its self as premium quality television will see Audi take pride of place on screen and online.
