McDonald's has consolidated its creative and social media accounts with DDB Sydney, following a review of its external partners.

The fast food company had previously been working with both DDB Sydney and VMLY&R.

A spokesperson from McDonald's confirmed the changes.

“After reviewing the support we require from our external partners, we’ve made the decision to consolidate our creative and social agency support; expanding DDB’s remit to include the management of our social channels," the spokesperson says.

"We enjoyed a productive relationship with VMLY&R and thank them for the work they delivered during their partnership with us.”

As a result of losing the account, AdNews understands there has been staff changes at VMLY&R.

VMLY&R has released the following statement confirming the move and a review of resources.

"VMLY&R Sydney is currently undertaking a review of resources. A number of team members are being consulted about future roles both within the organisation, and across WPP AUNZ’s other brands. The core leadership team remains unchanged. VMLY&R will be making no further comment.

"VMLY&R confirms that McDonald’s will shift their social media work from the agency in 2020. We remain on their roster of agencies for special projects across CX, technology and innovation."
