SYDNEY: Media industry charity MAYDAY (Media Assisting Youth) has raised a record $1.1 million for selected youth charities.
More than 150 media executives attended the annual MAYDAY event at Hemmesphere in Sydney last night, with entertainment from MC Mikey Robins, Potbelleez, Australia’s Got Talent winner Justice Crew and Australian Idol 2009 winner Stan Walker.
Firms made bids prior to the event on over 30 high value media packages sponsored by media brands, raising $1.1 million, an increase on 2009's fundraising total of $900,000.
Of the sum raises, $750,000 will be distributed among charities and $350,000 in advertising space will be used to promote the not-for-profit groups own fundraising and awareness campaigns.
MAYDAY founder, Kerry McCabe, said: “We really wanted to continue the momentum this year with more sponsors and beneficiaries signed on.
"The buy-in from media owners, advertisers and media buyers again proved what can be achieved with a little passion, empathy and focus on giving for the sake of giving.”
