Maurice Saatchi, the co-founder and namesake of M&C Saatchi, has called M&C Australia the ‘jewel in its crown’.

He was speaking as part of a video message to mark the induction of Tom Dery and Tom McFarlane’s into the AdNews Advertising Hall of Fame.

The Toms, as they are known in industry, have worked side by side for decades and grew M&C Saatchi from a startup back in 1995 to the largest agency in Australia in 2018.

Maurice Saatchi said: “For over 20 years they made the jewel in our crown by sheer audacity, the living embodiment of the M&C Saatchi philosophy: nothing is impossible.”

“From a hotel room with nothing, no revenue, no staff and no assets … they had nothing except a phone and their reputation. It must be … one of the iconic partnerships in all advertising. Nobody deserves it more.”

Tom Dery and Tom McFarlane were jointly entered into the AdNews Advertising Hall of Fame last night at the AdNews Agency of the Year Awards.
