MasterChef has pulled in 961,000 viewers for part one of its grand finale episode with the winners of the series expected to be announced tonight.

The Ten show knocked off Seven's House Rules grand finale, which was split across two categories, the 'final' and 'winners announced', which drew in 853,000 and 915,000 viewers respectively.

The home improvement program failed to match its strong 2017 finale ratings which drew 1.14 million metro viewers, but it did top Nine's Ninja Warrior ratings.

Nine's Ninja, which also began its two-part grand final overnight, rated better than House Rules' finale episode, drawing in 906,000 viewers but was topped by the show's 'winners announced' episode.

Ten's primetime success continued into the evening slot, with Have You Been Paying Attention? pulling 856,000 viewers.

Despite the success in both primetime and evening slots, Ten fell short of securing in a win in the overnight main channel share battle.

Seven's House Rule finale, coupled with its nightly news broadcast, led the main channel to an overnight win over both Nine and Ten, taking out a 19.4% main channel share.

Nine followed in second place, with a 19% share and Ten came in third with 18.3%.

Tonight, Ten and Nine will go head-to-head in a grand final ratings battle. Ten will be looking to recover from last year's grand finale, which was beaten by Ninja, which was riding the wave of success during its debut season.

Despite Ninja not living up to the hype of last year's season, Nine will be looking for a ratings win, after promising fans that this year's finale won't be a "damp squib" like last year's, which saw no contestants make it to the final stage, Mount Midoriyama.
