Fairfax's new national agency sales director Chris Freel has made his first move since landing the gig, giving agency group director Martin Wood the nod as Fairfax's new NSW agency sales director.

Freel had previously held the NSW role, but stepped up to the national position when Paul Sigaloff left to join Yahoo7 in December last year.

He had efectively been holding both posts but after taking on the national role on a permanent basis last week, has hired from within to fill the NSW position.

Wood who has 19 years of experience in media sales, joining Fairfax in 2003. Wood's appointment is effective immediately.

Wood had acted as sales manager working across banking, finance, IT and sport before becoming National Advertising Manager at The Sun-Herald, then Director of Fairfax Integrated Solutions during that time.

Freel said Wood was well-respected internally as well as by agencies and marketers, adding that the pair would work closely.

Fairfax told AdNews it did not seek any outside candidates for the role, confident that it had the talent within its ranks to fill the position.
