Former Telstra CMO Mark Buckman will join Foxtel as the MD of customer and retail in June. He returns to Australia after a brief stint in London as chief strategy office at Accenture Interactive.

Buckman will be responsilbe for Foxtel's sales and marketing functions, including customer service operations. This involves develpoing Foxtel's brand and ensuring this is visible at all customer touchpoints.

His role essentially combines that of former chief marketer Ed Smith, who left in March and Emma Hogan, who led customer experience at Foxtel.

“Mark Buckman is a globally recognised business leader,” says Foxtel CEO Peter Tonagh. “Having worked most recently in London, he has many years of experience with two of Australia’s most significant businesses and an undisputed record of success in changing consumer perceptions and building customer loyalty.

“Mark has a true understanding that companies only win and retain customers if they pay close attention to the total customer experience: from the marketing message that attracts them, to the process by which they join, and the service they receive when they have questions or requests or need problems solved.

Prior to his role at Accenture Interactive, Buckman was group managing director of media and marketing, and CMO at Telstra.

Buckman suddenly left the telco mid-2014 to relocate to London for "family reasons", and surfaced at Accenture a year later.

He has also previously held positions as CMO at the Commonwealth Bank and chairman and CEO Pacific Region of advertising agency McCann World Group.
