Macquarie confirms Magic redundancies

Macquarie Radio Network (MRN) has confirmed four redundancies for its Magic 1278 on-air team, as a result of its merger with Fairfax Radio Network.

The station confirmed that breakfast co-host Kevin John, and weekday and evening presenters Peter O'Callaghan, Ric Ditchburn and Peter Van would be leaving the station, along with one other staff member.

Magic 1278 chief operating officer Adam Lang said as a result of the redundancies a new on-air line-up would be announced shortly, and that it does not anticipate any further changes subsequent to that.

“The Magic 1278 on-air line-up will change and breakfast co-host Jane Holmes will remain with the station,” Lang said.

“We remain strongly committed to Melbourne and our audience.

“During the survey break period we will, as usual, have fill-in presenters and this week feature Melbourne entertainment icon Mike Brady.

“While any redundancies are regrettable, we are determined to build a stronger national radio network with our music stations, and the leading news, talk and sports stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth,” Lang added.

In addition, Macquarie's Sydney 2UE station has announced its new on-air presenter line-up.

The station saw Angela Catterns stood down after finishing her afternoon show, last Friday, featuring AdNews editor Rosie Baker on air.

It announced that instead, 2UE mornings presenter Stuart Bocking and afternoons presenter Justin Smith will have extended programs, with Bocking's program airing from 9am-2pm and Smith's from 2pm-6pm.

Breakfast hosts John Stanley and Garry Linnell will be scheduled from 5-9am. All other programming remains unchanged.

Macquarie's Brisbane station 4BC has seen five on-air presenters axed: Ian Skippen, Loretta Ryan, Patrick Condren, Walter Williams and Murray Shoring. The Brisbane Times is reporting redundancies of 18 roles in the station.
