Matt Tapper, the new chair of the AANA, with CEO, Sunita Gloster.

Matt Tapper has been elected chair of the board of the Australian Association of National Advertisers, succeeding Telstra's Inese Kingsmill.

The peak national body for advertisers said Tapper, currently managing director, global markets, for Lion's Beer, Cider and Wine, will bring continuity to the work of the AANA as it continues to embark on a new strategic plan.

Tapper had previously been AANA deputy chair before being elected into the top role. He became MD at Lion's Beer, Cider and Wine in October of this year, with a focus on expanding the brand's overseas footprint. Tapper previously served as the brand's national marketing director for five years prior.

The top marketer said he was honoured to accept the new role at AANA.

“The AANA will continue to be highly active in promoting our core purpose of self-regulation. It's an exciting time for marketers and as leaders we need to keep working on building and elevating the reputation and communicating the contribution of our industry,” he said.

Kingsmill, Telstra's director of consumer marketing, said she expects Tapper to be a great resource to the organisation, adding that she was proud of the contribution the AANA made during her three year tenure as chair.
