Lion has restructured its marketing team splitting the top marketing role formerly held by Matt Tapper into three roles.

The role has been split into three; brand and innovation, category and planning, and craft and cider.

Tanya Marler will take on the role of marketing director for brand and innovation. She will look after XXXX, Tooheys, Hahn, James Boags, Lion’s international premium brands and will have responsibility for innovation and communications, including digital, media, sponsorship and experiential.

Ben Slocombe will take on the marketing director of category and planning role with responsibility for category, shopper, planning and insights, and Lion’s beer and cider category strategies across the Tasman.

Gordon Treanor has been appointed marketing director for craft and cider brands.

Each will join the executive leadership team and start the new roles on 1 October.

Tapper, who was national marketing director, was earlier this month promoted to oversee the beverage firm's international division as managing director.

Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine managing director James Brindley said: “As Australia’s leading brewer we are committed to revitalising the beer category and getting it back into growth. To achieve this we need to build the brands consumers demand while continuing to evolve the accessibility and relevance of the category, and we believe dedicated brand and category leadership positions will support this dual focus.

“We also understand that our craft and cider portfolios require a different management approach to our broader beer portfolio and the appointment of a Craft and Cider Director will ensure each receive the focus and support they need to grow.”
