Jetstar to offer in-flight iPads

SYDNEY: Jetstar is set to launch iPad rental trials as part of its inflight entertainment package on selected domestic routes.

The trial will give airline passengers the opportunity to rent an iPad for $10 for the duration of their flight and access movies, tv programs, eBooks, music videos, games and CDs.

Jetstar currently offers a limited video-on-demand system to passengers for $10, or $15 for a full selection of programs.

"We are really excited to commence the trial of the iPads, as we're always looking for ways to enhance our customer's Jetstar experience," said Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan. "Given the demand for the iPad so far, I anticipate it will have strong appeal amongst our passengers".

Buchanan said Jetstar expects to roll out the iPad across all international and domestic flights later this year.

Jetstar is working with in-flight entertainment specialist Bluebox Avionics and Stellar Inflight to implement the trial.
