Initiative Perth has beefed up its digital capability, just as the agency pitches for the Perth-based iiNet account.

Jonathan Ricciardone, formerly of News Corp, has moved into the digital director's chair at the IPG agency, having also been at Ikon Communications as its head of digital.

Managing director of Initiative Perth, Chris O'Keefe, said the appointment was made on the back of more demand for digital take-up by Perth brands.

“Jon has an impressive portfolio in digital strategy and execution and he will be a big complement to the expansion of the agency’s digital work for our clients,” O’Keefe said.

Meanwhile, Ricciardone said he was looking forward to jumping back agency-side.

The agency is in the middle of the pitch for the $20 million iiNet account, which is believed to be down to the incumbent in OMD WA, Initiative and ZenithOptimedia.

It also comes shortly after IPG appointed Clive Bingwa to head up the group in Perth, after about 16 years with 303Lowe.
