Our Industry Profile takes a weekly look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we head to Sydney to speak to The Trade Desk ANZ commercial director, Doireann Ó Brádaigh.

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Almost three years now. I was employee number one for The Trade Desk in Australia and New Zealand.

How would you describe what the company does?

We’re an advertising technology company focused solely on the buy-side, meaning we power the many sophisticated agencies and their brands in the market that run programmatic advertising campaigns.

What does your role involve?

What doesn’t it involve might be a better question... You name it, I do it.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

We’ve grown at 158% this past year.

Best thing about the industry you work in:

It's hyper stimulating and evolving at break neck speed. It's certainly never dull. And it's the perfect balance of people and technology.

Previous industry related (ad land/ad tech) companies you have worked at.

Google, including a long stint at DoubleClick both here and in Europe as well as the Rubicon Project, APAC.

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?

Continuing to grow the footprint of The Trade Desk in Australia, and Asia. I'll also confess to a secret desire to open the Trade Desk office in Italy or Spain...but that's just between you and me.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I have an innate ability to mix metaphors...but you can't change the spots on an old dog.

Top networking tip:

Make a habit of remembering people’s names the first time you meet them. It goes a long way. No excuses.

My favourite restaurant for a business lunch is:

Nomad in Surry Hills. Incredible wine list and awesome service.

My favourite advert is:

Hmm. To be honest, I'm better at delivering them than watching them.

My must-have gadget is:

Predictably, it’s my iPhone.

My favourite media is:

Print.

My favourite TV show is:

I don’t watch television.

The last book I read:

“One Fine Day” by … cannot recall the author.

My mantra / philosophy is:

Love the one you’re with.

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing because:

Having done my primary degree in languages in Cork, it seemed to be the logical next step to add a computer science post grad to the mix and see where that took me… and here I am.

If I wasn’t doing this for a living, I’d be:

A fashion designer.

In five years’ time I’ll be:

In five years time, I'll look back at ad technology now and think to myself "How quaint?!"

Define your job in one word.

Scintillating.

What’s your poison:

Lindt Sea Salt Chocolate with an earthy Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre.
