This week we head to Sydney to speak to Greg Taylor, managing director at Marketo.

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Six months. We move fast at Marketo and pack a lot in.

In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does:

Marketo helps marketers develop long-term relationships with their customers – from acquisition to advocacy – an approach we call engagement marketing.

In one sentence what does your role involve?

I am here to help Marketo expand their business into Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

We moved into our own offices, we’ve doubled in staff, and we’ve added a lot of new customers.

Best thing about the industry you work in?

We are shaping a whole new space in engagement marketing, its evolving so quickly you can never rest.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at?

I’ve spent my entire career in technology working for Oracle in California and Sydney then Software AG and most recently BMC, before joining Marketo.

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?

I’d like to be working for Marketo with an impactful leadership role with a much bigger market.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I was accepted to Westpoint Millitary Academy but decided to work in technology instead.

Top networking tip?

Be yourself and put yourself out there.

My favourite restaurant for a business lunch is:

The BridgeRoom is my favourite right now. It has great food and you can actually hear your customers!

My favourite advert is:

Really enjoying MikMak - it is a new way to connect with ads.

Must-have gadget is:

Beats wireless headphones. You can work, workout, or listen to music. They are fantastic.

My favourite media is:

Mobile has my attention at the moment and probably will for a while.

My favourite TV show is:

Making A Murderer on Netflix.

The last book I read:

City of Thieves.

My mantra/philosophy is:

Why is there never enough time to do things right but always enough time to do them again?

I got into advertising/adtech/marketing etc. because:

It's leading the world through a digital lens and innovation is at the forefont.

If I wasn’t doing this for a living I’d be:

Coaching tennis.

In five years time I’ll be:

Really good at telling jokes at Martech parties.

Define your job in one word:

Humbling.

What’s your poison:

Hendricks and tonic/cucumber.
