Geronimo founder and CEO, Matt Hunt.

Our Industry Profile takes a weekly look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we head to Sydney to speak to Matt Hunt, CEO and founder at Geronimo.

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Coming up to one year.

In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does:

We are a mobile and programmatic advertising company.

In one sentence, what does your role involve?

Driving our strategic agenda, building long-term relationships with our clients, partners and investors.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

In a year of 'firsts' the key milestones were securing angel investment, locking in partnerships with two foundation clients and approaching our first birthday with my team, family and clients - all excited about taking our proposition to the next level.

Best thing about the industry you work in:

People can and do have the opportunity to break out of the corporate structure and start their own venture with support from the industry.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at:

ZDNet, CNET, CBS Interactive, Adconion, Amobee/Optus.

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?

Helping other people disrupt their industries by launching businesses of their own.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I love surfing, playing guitar and singing – and therefore have a man crush on Jack Johnson.

Top networking tip:

If you are not networking, you’re not working.

My favourite restaurant for a business lunch is:

Hugos Manly.

My favourite advert is:

Corona – from where you’d rather be.

My must-have gadget is:

iPhone.

My favourite media is:

Mobile and digital.

My favourite TV show is:

iFish and The Last Kingdom on Netflix.

The last book I read:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle – not on the business high achievers reading list…

My mantra / philosophy is:

The road to success is always under repair.

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:

I believe that marketing is the single most important function of any company. Understanding our customers and creating value for them is the mission for all business owners.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:

In a client-side marketing role.

In five years' time I'll be:

Healthier, wiser and happier.

Define your job in one word:

Evangelist.

What's your poison:

I’m learning to like whiskey but it’s more difficult than I’d like.
