WPP-owned full-service agency Ikon has won the media account for natural medicines business Metagenics, with the account to be managed out of its Brisbane office.

Ikon takes responsibility for media strategy, planning, buying and implementation for Metagenics across the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The agency will also provide specialist capabilities including data management, CRM and performance media channels to its remit.

“Our approach to strategic communications, coupled with passion for the client and category, put us ahead in the pitch process," Ikon Brisbane agency director Adam Hickey says.

"The team at Ikon are ecstatic to begin work on one of Australia’s most iconic portfolio of brands and build a partnership born off the back of shared organisational values."

Ikon has been tasked with providing "innovative business solutions" for Metagenics brands in an increasingly competitive and cluttered vitamin and supplement market.

“We were looking for a single agency who could provide a broad capability stretching far beyond just media planning and buying," Metagenics head of marketing - retail Brett Ballantine says.

"Adam and his team demonstrated a true understanding and passion for our business and we are confident that together we will maximise commercial opportunities for our brands.”

Over the past 12 months, Ikon has also won the media accounts for Lindt Chocolate, Avis Budget Group and The Star Entertainment Group, while also consolidating the media account for insurer NIB.

The account win follows the news by Ikon earlier this month that it had entered into a new partnership with 'virtual agency' Skinner Advertising Services (SAS), which handles the accounts for Carpet Call and entertainment company Feld Entertainment.

Metagenics is not the only vitamins company to up its media presence through new agency arrangements this year.

Independent Melbourne-based full service agency Stratosphere was appointed to the media account for Australian vitamins company, Nature's Care in April.
