The Media Federation of Australia (MFA) has confirmed Mediabrands Australia executive chairman Henry Tajer as its new chairman, with Ikon's Gary Hardwick stepping down.

Tajer, who has been on the board for four years, was responsible for introducing NGen, which promotes young leaders of the future through workshops, social events and charity events. In the past year, Ngen increased membership by 125% and expanded into Brisbane, the MFA said.

At yesterday's 13th AGM, the MFA lambasted the magazine sector for its lack of interest in improving print accountability.

The MFA said its goal to develop a new metric for circulation remains “quite divided” as part of a bid to increase audience transparency and data, but praised newspapers for embracing its efforts.

It said: “Newspapers have encouragingly been working towards a possible solution, however, the MFA and its members were clear in that continuing with 13-week rolling average figures reported on a monthly basis would not generate any benefits over the current reporting system. The biggest area of disappointment is the apparent lack of of interest from the magazine sector.”

The MFA also confirmed new ambassadors to lead its nine separate committees and their respective priorities for the year ahead.

Initiative's Tracie Michael will lead the Award Chair; Mindshare's Kerry Field is appointed to Digital; OMD's Carolyn Maloney takes Education, OMD's Vince Meoli is in charge of Finance and OMD's Steve Sinha is on the Melbourne chair.

The NGen Chair will led by Ikon's David Spasovic; Research is headed by GAP Research's John Grono and UM's Victor Corones has been appointed to Systems.
