Following a competitive pitch process, Havas Melbourne has been appointed as the media agency of record for Australian-owned energy provider Momentum Energy.

AdNews understands the account could be worth about $3 million to $4 million, and the brand had been dabbling with a few agencies recently, in the interim.

The win adds to the growing portfolio at Havas with the agency recently picking up Kia earlier this year and a slate of clients in 2016.

“We are excited to be working with Havas to help us transform our media mix from a traditional approach to a digitally biased solution that gives us visibility and confidence in the return on our media investments," Momentum Energy head of marketing Naomi Morton says.

“Havas stood out from the other agencies through their straight talking approach, their digital and strategic expertise and their passion for our business.”

In 2016, Momentum was fined $54k for “misleading” ads that made untrue claims about its renewability.

Havas Melbourne Group managing director Matt Houltham says: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Naomi and her team because they want a media partner, not a service provider. They expect us to act as an extension of their team, to push them to innovate and to take responsibility for delivering results. And that’s exactly how we’ve designed our model.”

DDB Melbourne is Momentum's agency of record, winning the account in 2015.

Last year DDB launched a new campaign for the energy company that aimed to counters the negativity surrounding the category as a whole.
