Google launches Instant search

Google has launched Google Instant, a search enhancement feature that will instantly display search results while a user is still typing.

Users will be able to adapt their search terms instantly to focus on the results they're looking for. The new feature will be the core search interface in the US.

In the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia, users need to be signed into a Google account to access the feature. It is only available through recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer.

At the moment, Australian users can access Google Instant through oversees versions of Google, such as google.co.uk. It's believed the feature will roll out in the Australian market in the coming weeks.

The functionality uses 15 new technologies, and will purportedly save two to five seconds per search, premised on the idea that you read 10 times faster than you type.

Google anticipates the feature will not slow down internet connections but Google Instant will be automatically turned off for particularly slow connections.
