ANZ's head of digital and social media, Amanda Gome, is leaving the bank this month.

Gome announced the news this afternoon and told AdNews that after two years at the bank she felt now was the right time to move on. “When I look at what I set out to do, that's now done,” she said.

While Gome doesn't have any plans for her next move locked in, she is interested in the “whole new world of modern communications” and the ability to use digital platforms to connect with existing customers. However, she's unsure whether she's going to start her own business to work in that space or take on another role in a business.

Despite Gome departing the business, the bank is still backing its publishing venture BlueNotes, with the unit launching a new app in 2016. Gome, who was involved in the publication, explained it now reaches 225,000 people a year, which is more than double what it did last year, with its subscriber base nearly hitting the 5000 mark.

ANZ has announced that Sarah Anderson, who is returning from maternity leave, will replace Gome.

Anderson will lead innovation in ANZ’s digital and social media strategy, the evolution of its governance and social capability programs, and the establishment of a new capability within corporate communications focused on data analytics, as well as working on BlueNotes.

Gome is not leaving the business altogether however, she will continue to work on the Notable Women program, which was designed to improve the visibility, social media and communications skills of female leaders at the bank.

Gome departs the bank on 11 December.
