Unruly has named former IPG Mediabrands Singapore boss David Haddad as its managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

Haddad replaces Ricky Chanana who departed in April to join Twitch Australia as its head of sales.

With more than 17 years’ experience in the advertising industry, Haddad has worked across agencies in Singapore and Australia before landing his role as IPG CEO in 2018.

In his new Sydney-based role at the video advertising platform, which was sold by News Corp to Tremor International earlier this year, Haddad will be responsible for accelerating the company’s growth across both regions and working closely with News Corp Australia in cementing Unruly’s brand reputation in the region.

“The Australian and New Zealand markets are key growth territories for us, so having David’s incredible leadership skills, vast knowledge and industry know-how will be crucial as we continue to roll out our exciting all-screen capabilities to our clients,” says Alex Khan, group managing director international.

Haddad has also previously worked as UM Sydney general manager.

“Bolstered by Tremor’s enhanced capabilities, I’m excited to unleash Unruly’s multi-screen, market-leading proposition across Australia and New Zealand,” Haddad says.

“Every dollar invested in creative and media must be data-driven, and that’s where Unruly stands out. I’m really honoured to be joining the team and can’t wait to start working with the many incredibly talented people within the business.”

News Corp sold Unruly for a small stake in the video ad-tech company, marking further consolidation in the ad-tech space, after purchasing it in 2015.

Haddad will continue to work with News Corp Australia to connect it with advertisers.

“Our relationship with Unruly has never been stronger and we’re over the moon David is joining at such an exciting time, where Unruly is delivering on the exciting promise of multi-screen, premium video, underpinned by our market-leading data platform News Connect and the Unruly EQ+ data offering,” says Lou Barrett, News Corp Australia’s managing director of national sales.
