Facebook has introduced a suite of new features to help brands connect to the 900 million people who use Messenger each month. It is expected Facebook will introduce advertising to its messaging service in a week or so.

New features include Twitter-style usernames to help people search for other users and brands more easily, and Snapchat-like image codes that users can take pictures of with their phones to connect to brands.

Brands will also be able to use unique links that point users directly to their profiles. Messenger is also adding scannable codes and welcome notes to help brands connect to users.

In the past year, Facebook has made Messenger more business-friendly. This includes letting retailers send order receipts and manage customer service requests through the messaging app.

Facebook has also integrated Messenger into brands' pages to allow users to spread brand messages to other friends.
