Carlton and United Breweries' (CUB) parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), has appointed Richard Oppy as global VP for global brands, including Corona, Stella Artois and Budweiser.

Currently AB InBev’s VP marketing, Asia Pacific South, Oppy will relocate to New York for the role, which sees him lead the worldwide marketing for some of the industry's biggest beer brands.

Oppy started at CUB in 2001 as an assistant brand manager for VB and Carlton Mid and has since been promoted to multiple marketing roles within the business including CUB marketing director.

He will commence his new position in New York on 1 January 2019.

During his time with CUB, Oppy led and launched mutliple brands including Great Northern, Carlton Dry, the Yaks, Carlton Draught Tank Beer and Pure Blonde Cider.

“At a time when other consumer goods companies have cut costs, we have invested in innovation and fuelled growth," Oppy says.

“The biggest challenge will be developing creative and platforms for the Global Brands that are relevant to both emerging and mature markets and maintaining global consistency."

During his time leading the marketing team, Oppy is credited with strengthening the business’ brands and a rebalancing of its portfolio, which has since driven topline growth.

CUB has been a two year journey, following its 2016 acquisition by AB InBev, to digital transform the brands and create more efficiency within the business. The acquistion saw CUB review its global media arrangements last year, moving from MediaCom to PHD.
