Ten's launch of the revamped celebrity dancing program Dancing with the Stars has debuted overnight to an audience of 621,000 viewers.

The show, hosted by Grant Denyer and Amanda Keller, was unable to match up against Nine and Seven's primetime offerings, with Married at First Sight (MAFS) winning the night, while My Kitchen Rules (MKR) followed in second.

“It had a good start in the ratings – the show was #2 across its timeslot and lifted our 7.30pm timeslot 35% compared to the same night last year. It also had high engagement across social," Network Ten chief content officer Beverley McGarvey said.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how the stars continue to shake-up the dancefloor across the season.”

MAFS continued to dominate the overnight ratings, once again drawing in a commanding 1.2 million metro viewers overnight, while MKR managed to stay above the 700,000 viewer mark by 9000.

The Nine reality juggernaut also proved to be a strong launchpad for Nine's new drama Bad Mothers. Promoting the show heavily through the MAFS broadcast since its launch, Bad Mothers drew in 691,000 viewers in the evening slot.

Nine's strong performance in primetime, evening and with its nightly news bulletin lead it to another strong win in the overnight main channel battle, taking a 25.3% share.

Seven came in second with 18.1% share, while Ten, despite the premiere of another primetime program, was unable to beat the ABC, which had a 14.3% share, with Ten only taking a 12.9% share.

Despite competing in the primetime slot, Dancing with the Stars will not air until the same time next week, with Ten instead airing Ambulance Australia up against MAFS and MKR tonight.
