The creative contingent of adland sits at the beating heart of the industry. To fully embrace that, and with a mission to create awesome and inspiring covers, each month AdNews hand-picks an agency to work their magic.
The cover of the year is then voted for by readers - with a bespoke AdNews 'A' up for grabs.
To reflect the current magazine's investigative feature on consultancies and their impact on adland, here we call on The Monkeys - who were perfectly positioned to take on the challenge, given they were acquired by a consultancy in 2017.
AdNews editor Pippa Chambers spoke with the agency's group chief creative officer and co–founder, Scott Nowell.
Thoughts on the consultancies brief?
"We thought we were probably in a good position to be part of something involving the consultancies as we’ve got a great story to tell with Accenture. Initial thoughts were around how do we convey what an exciting time this can be in the industry, and how do we do something that suggests things are going to be different in a big, positive way?"
How did you know you'd landed on the best concept?
"When we knew we were making the point and having a bit of fun at our own expense."
Who from the team was largely involved?
"All of The Monkeys were involved. Look, there's thousands. Special mention though to Chloe Banicevic and Alex Watson."
What were the biggest hurdles to making this a reality?
"No time and the shoot was more ambitious than we'd first imagined."
Tell us about the shoot. Who shot this and how did it come together?
"Simon Harsent shot it, and frankly we were very lucky he was involved. Watching one of the country's pre–eminent photographers and his team organising a rabble of Monkeys in suits was deeply impressive."
Any challenges on the day?
"Trying to look serious."
Best bit about the process/any funny stories etc?
"Seeing everybody turn up in suits. Our IT guy Nick had a meeting with some tech gurus that morning and couldn't believe how much respect he got."
