The NRL has appointed Archibald/Williams to launch its 2016 Telstra Premiership season.

The independent agency picked up the account following a competitive pitch against three other agencies.

The NRL is the dominant winter sport in NSW, QLD and the ACT and is one of the most viewed sports on Australian television. Network Nine recently made a $1.8 billion deal for the broadcast rights of the NRL.

The season launch is the flagship campaign for the NRL and will take place in February 2016. Archibald/Willliams said the fully integrated national campaign will run across TV, press, digital and social with the aim of building anticipation for the start of the 2016 season.

Archibald/Williams will also be involved in preparing retail campaigns for the marquee rounds on the Easter Weekend and ANZAC Day.
