QBE Australia has appointed independent creative agency Core to its creative account following a pitch.

The insurance company pitched out the account in April of this year and a number of large and independent agencies were said to be vying for the business.

AdNews understands that McCann and Clemenger BBDO were involved in the pitch.

Core’s appointment marks the insurer’s plans to elevate its position in the highly competitive insurance category.

Christian Finucane, Core creative partner, said, “We’re over the moon they selected Core’s idea to help them achieve that”.

Jon Skinner, Core creative partner, also added: “The QBE marketing team were receptive to innovative thinking from our very first meeting. The win is a significant one for us and will help deliver a genuine commercial difference for QBE”.

The agency is currently working on campaigns that will be rolled out in key markets across television, digital, outdoor and print media.

Jenny Boddington, executive general manager responsible for marketing at QBE Australia, said: “We are continuing to build QBE as a great differentiated option for consumers in what is a cluttered market and we are enthusiastic about Core’s ability to help us achieve this”.

The account was previously held by Ultimo-based outfit SOSS Creative.

In the 12 months to February 2014, QBE Insurance spent $6.8 million on main media according to Nielsen.

The QBE Insurance account adds to recent Core new business wins that include Victa and Ella Baché.
