CHE Proximity and Velocity have been crowned the 2018 Australian Creative Excellence Showcase (ACES) awards winners.

The Australian Creative Excellence Showcase, run by cinema network Val Morgan in partnership with AdNews, celebrates Australian creativity, and the ads must have appeared in Australian cinemas, on TV or online between December 2016 – April 2018.

The Billion Point Giveaway for Velocity Frequent Flyer, created by CHE Proximity, took out the top prize last night, at an awards ceremony hosted by Palace Cinemas Verona in Paddington, Sydney.

Runners-up include, BMF's Aldi 'Epic Reminders' and The Monkeys' Meat and Livestock Australia 'Celebrate Australia'.

The work shows ‘Tim the intern’ accidentally give away one billion points instead of one million to Velocity customers. CHE Proximity ECD Ant White said the work encapsulated the data positioning of the agency.

With more than 40 different videos, the month-long campaign played out like a mini-series, with each clip documenting the impact of giving away that many points.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and Finch also made the finals list. Val Morgan hosted the awards again this year.

“We are proud to be hosting the ACES once again and supporting our local creative industry. The talent that is showcased in this year’s entries really raises the bar for advertising film," Val Morgan Group CEO Daniel Hill said.

The judges said this year’s entries had some brilliant ideas.

"[They're] reiterating the great creativity coming out of our homegrown work. The finalists were all thoroughly engaging and entertaining, with many of them embracing some good Australian humour," the judges said.

The judging panel included chairperson Carmela Soares (ECD, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne), alongside Derek Green (ECD, Ogilvy), Simon Lee (ECD, The Hallway), Grant Rutherford (CD, The Monkeys), Therese Kallie (director of communications and marketing services, Nestle), Sarah Pike (VP marketing and communications, MasterCard), and Pippa Chambers (AdNews editor).
