The Commonwealth Bank (CBA) has appointed Dell marketer Andrew Lark as chief marketing officer, replacing Mark Buckman following his departure to Telstra.

Lark assumes the role of chief marketing officer on 1 July. He was most recently vice president, Dell, responsible for leading global marketing across its Public and Large Enterprise Group.

The appointment concludes a six-month search for Buckman's successor after he resigned from CBA in December to join Telstra.

Lark will report to the bank's group executive, Retail Banking Service, Ross McEwan, who said: "He is a high calibre executive with experience leading the Global Marketing functions at large international companies in Asia, Europe and most recently the United States."

Lark joined Dell from LogLogic, a tech start-up backed by big investors such as Sequoia Capital. At LogLogic, Lark led marketing activity as CMO across Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He has also worked at US tech giant Sun Microsystems.

CBA said Lark had strong skills in online, social media and emerging technologies. “I look forward to Andrew joining our Marketing team and bringing his experience and innovation to the Commonwealth Bank," McEwan said.

In the interim period, the CMO role at CBA was assumed by Business and Private Banking general manager, Martin Whelan, who is in discussions about his role at the bank.
