Mondelez International has promoted Paul Chatfield to Cadbury’s top marketing role in Australia and New Zealand.

Chatfield will succeed Kjetil Undhjem as director of marketing for chocolate with the Norwegian taking up another Mondelez International role as senior category director of Western Europe chocolate.

Chatfield brings more than 18 years of marketing experience, including the past six years at Mondelez where he has been category head of seasonal and associate director of everyday chocolate. He has also held marketing roles at Arnott’s, Heinz and Vitasoy.

“We’re delighted to be promoting Paul into this role given our commitment to growing great internal talent and his fantastic track record over the last six years with us,” Mondelez area vice president of Australia, New Zealand and Japan Amanda Banfield says.

“With experience across the full chocolate portfolio, Paul has most recently been leading the Cadbury Dairy Milk brand, launched Cadbury Dark Milk (the first country in the world to bring this new chocolate taste to the market), led the relaunch of Marvellous Creations and spearheaded a new approach to brand sponsorships.”

Chatfield says Cadbury has one of the strongest brand marketing teams in the industry.

“With such a rich history in Australia and New Zealand, it is both a privilege and exciting to lead such an iconic and much-loved portfolio of brands into the next chapter of growth, building on such a successful history,” Chatfield says.

Last year, Undhjem told AdNews that Cadbury launched its controversial Vegemite flavour chocolate bar as part of a clever marketing campaign to get Australians talking about weird flavours of chocolate.
