Bradley McGee, second from left, outlines his goals for the inaugural Bowral Classic.

Australian cycling legend Bradley McGee expects riders to complete the 160km Bowral Classic within five hours, setting a competitive pace for the inaugural event, which will also be tackled by several media executives.

McGee was outlining his expectations to Nine sports presenter Ken Sutcliffe in an interview that also included former Australian cricketer and Nine commentator Michael Slater and former Australian road cyclist Katie Brown.

The Bowral Classic is a one-day cycling event in the Southern Highlands of NSW. It is drawing a strong contingent from the media and advertising sectors and will feature McGee, Slater and Brown.

"I actually live in the Southern Highlands so it's quite close and dear to me, and this is taking in some of the most picturesque parts of the highlands," says McGee, a gold medallist at the Athens Olympic Games.

"I have ridden on some of these roads, they're tough, but you'll have a real good sense of achievement at the end of the day."

The Gran Fondo event will feature senior media and adland executives, including Ten CEO Paul Anderson, JC Decaux CEO Steve O'Connor, Ooh! Media digital strategy director Brendon Cropper and Val Morgan group sales director Laura Horsley.

Also slapping on their lycra will be Amplifi ANZ president Paul Brooks, Ikon chief investment officer Bryan Magee, Mercer Bell creative director Simon Bloomfield, Australian Radio Network group sales manager Angus Leech and AdNews publisher James Yaffa.

Cyclists will go head-to-head at the gran fondo event on 22-23 October against hundreds of other cyclists, riding through NSW’s Southern Highlands.

The route will take riders through the villages of Bowral, Berrima, Mittagong and Kangaloon. The routes will offer beautiful scenic back roads as well as tough challenges if you're up for a challenge.

The course is a full ‘imperial century’ distance of 160km for advanced cyclists. There is also a 90km option for those with less distance in their legs, and a 25km ride for kids.
