Chris Platt, the managing director of UM Brisbane, has joined BCM as the independent agency bolsters its media and strategy offering.

He joins as director of media and engagement and as a member of the agency leadership team.

Platt has been at UM for nearly two years and has also held roles in both Sydney and Brisbane at Carat, Y&R, Dentsu, Zenith and Mindshare.

His arrival comes three months after Phil McDonald joined BCM as a managing partner from Y&R.

Founding partner Paul Cornwell, who recently spoke out against hidden commissions in media buying, says the hire of Pratt continues the momentum for BCM following the arrival of McDonald.

"We have seriously bolstered our strategic offering for clients and look forward to continuing our positive momentum and growth," he says.

McDonald says Platt's hire signals BCM's commitment to offering an alternative to the "traditional, siloed media and creative agencies".

On his appointment Platt says: “The opportunity to join one of the most successful independent, integrated agencies in Australia to lead media, engagement and strategy came at a perfect time for me. I see the need to challenge the way we do business, to find smarter and simpler ways of delivering results for clients through clean and clear alignment of creative and channel. BCM are perfectly placed to do just this.”

McDonald, who has spent most of his career within WPP, recently spoke to AdNews about transitioning from a holding company to an independent agency.

UM has been approached for comment on Platt's replacement.
