Bauer Media has axed its digital arm, Bauer Xcel, integrating it back into the core business.

Leading the new digital team is Sarah Belle Murphy, former executive manager of media product at REA, who joins as general manager of digital.

The move follows the exit of Bauer Xcel managing director Christian Fricke in late 2017.

Bauer Xcel struggled to hit its business targets in the last two years, with Fricke laying off several staff in 2016 as a result.

The announcement of Murphy’s return to Bauer follows the launch of several new initiatives, including a new branded content arm and a new women’s platform, Women to Love.

This week, Bauer also announced a restructure to its digital team with Fiona Baker taking on the role of managing editor, Now To Love as Emily Kerr, digital content director, moves to New York.

“I’m delighted Sarah-Belle is joining Bauer Media. She has led the delivery of many successful web and app-based organisations and I know she is going to have a very strong positive impact," Bauer CEO Paul Dykzeul says.
