Bauer’s MD of its digital arm, Bauer Xcel, Carl Hammerschmidt, is exiting the business after six years. He will continue to work with the publisher for the next few months until his replacement is found.

Hammerschmidt played a key role in the development of Bauer Xcel over the past 18 months, including the acquisition of Beauty Heaven and overseeing the creation of its digital women’s network. The last time AdNews spoke to Hammerschmidt he said he was focusing was on creating a single view of customers.

Announcing his decision to leave, he said: “It has been a fantastic six years at Bauer. It has been a pleasure to lead the team of passionate and dedicated people who have all contributed to the birth and development of a successful digital business.

“The digital business has gone from strength to strength and there is a great platform for continued growth. It is now time to move onto the next opportunity. I would like to thank Bauer for giving me the opportunity to build this dynamic and exciting business.”

CEO Nick Chan, who started in the role two weeks ago, thanked Hammerschmidt for pioneering Bauer Xcel in Australia.

“He has laid the foundations for its continued success and evolution. I understand his desire to move onto the next phase of his career and I wish him the very best in his future endeavors. I’m pleased Carl has agreed to work with the business over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition,” Chan says.
