Spikes Asia wrapped up over the weekend with Australian and New Zealand taking out a stack of honours.

The obvious contenders from New Zealand, being McWhopper and Brewtroleum, saw success as did Clemenger BBDO Melbourne's Hungerithm.

Spikes received a record-breaking number of entries with 5,132 submitted into 20 categories.

Terry Savage, chairman of Spikes Asia which is part of the Cannes Lions festival group, said this year's award-winning work “set the benchmark of excellence across the region”.

"It's inspiring to observe the year-on-year growth of the Festival, where we can award work that has a distinctly regional identity, while also being truly world-class. Spikes Asia is setting the bar of excellence for the industry," he adds.

Highlights for Australia and New Zealand from the awards included:

  • The Grand Prix for Good went to Leo Burnett Melbourne for its Reword campaign for Headspace.
  • University of Western Sydney won a Grand Prix in Film and in the Music category for the powerful Deng Adut ad by Finch and VCD + WE.Collective.
  • Clemenger BBDO Melbourne won two Grand Prix awards for Hungerithm for Mars Chocolate (in Mobile and Media).
  • Starcom Melbourne was awarded Media Agency of the Year. MediaCom Auckland was second and PHD Auckland was third.
