Amazon taps Aussie comedy talent for new Prime Video series

Amazon has upped its investment in Australian content as it prepares to launch a series of stand-up specials featuring local comedians.

The ten-part series will be filmed in Melbourne this September and premiere exclusively on Prime Video in early 2020.

The specials will include a roster of award-winning and nominated comedians, and be made available to Prime members around the world in more than 200 countries and territories.

The new specials will include performances by Gold Logie winner Tom Gleeson, Lano & Woodley, Zoë Coombs Marr, Judith Lucy, Tommy Little, Anne Edmonds, Tom Walker, Celia Pacquola, Dilruk Jayasinha and Alice Fraser.

“Amazon’s comedy series and stand-up specials have excited our customers around the world, and we’re looking forward to welcoming this talented group of Australian comedians to the Prime Video family,” Amazon Studios head of international originals James Farrell says.

“These are hilarious performances that we know our customers will love in Australia and around the world.”

Produced by Guesswork Television, Australian Amazon Original stand-up specials coming to Prime Video early next year include:

  • Joy – Tom Gleeson
  • All Talk – Celia PacquolaSelf-Diagnosed Genius – Tommy Little
  • Judith Lucy vs Men – Judith Lucy
  • Fly – Lano & Woodley
  • What’s Wrong with You? – Anne Edmonds
  • Bossy Bottom – Zoë Coombs Marr
  • Very Very – Tom Walker
  • Live – Dilruk Jayasinha
  • Savage – Alice Fraser

The announcement of the Amazon Original stand-up specials in Australia follows the recent news of Amazon’s first Australian Amazon Original, LOL: Last One Laughing, to be executive produced and hosted by Rebel Wilson.

Yesterday, Wilson was also revealed as the producer of a new reality show for Seven Studios, Pootch Perfect, a series about finding Australia's best dog stylists.
