Ad execs urge industry to get involved – AdNews Challenge

By AdNews | 24 October 2014

It's no secret that the fast-spinning advertising, media and marketing industry is a competitive one when it comes to work, but what about sport?

As part of an annual tradition, sports enthusiasts, first-timers and general team players from across the industry are being called upon to take time away from the desk and have a bit of fun.

The 16 November challenge, held in Mosman, will see hundreds of people from across the sector take part in the AdNews Challenge.

The event, which includes a 2km kayak, a 6km run, 600m swim and a brand new and exhilarating obstacle course, can be completed as a team of four – or you can choose to brave it solo.

The new obstacle course includes big hurdles, balance beams, tunnel crawls, tube mines, bear crawls, log carry, sand bag carry and a tunnel crawl and slide. You can also check out a drone's eye view of the challenge here.

MD at Amobee, Matt Hunt, said Team Amobee has been training hard and knows that through “preparation, persistence and dedication” it can “dominate on the day”.

“We're a competitive bunch at Amobee so entering the AdNews Challenge not only resonates with Amobee’s culture of giving back, but has also instilled a passion to win!” Hunt said.

“Amobee has been involved with the AdNews Challenge for several years now because it’s a great event for a great cause and I’d encourage everyone in the industry to get involved.

Money raised from teams goes to UN LTD, a not-for-profit foundation representing the media, marketing and advertising industry.
UN LTD provides support to charity partners who specialise in working with young people at risk.

Founder of Lavender, Will Lavender, is also calling on those who have not signed up to get involved. He also stressed that CEOs need to sign up and give it a go too.

“It's a great event which encourages team work and it's great to see many familiar faces,” Lavender said.

“Just like advertising it’s a dog fight out there when you get so many companies going head-to-head – but all in such great spirit.”

AdNews Challenge ambassador, and keen sportsman (who plans taking on the event solo) James Yaffa, said this year the event offers a slightly different challenge with all activity centred in Clifton Gardens Reserve.

“We'll still have the longer kayak, running and swimming legs from last year, but we are replacing the cycling leg with a special obstacle course in the Reserve,” Yaffa said.

“This is not only a great challenge for industry players to demonstrate their skill (and competitiveness) but is also a great day for all the family so we are urging everyone to come on down on the day.”

Can you take on Amobee, Bauer Media, M&C Saatchi, ZenithOptimedia, AdRoll, News Corp, Salmat, TMS, Yahoo7 and many more?
