Ad bookings up 4.9% to $7.9bn in record year

Advertising bookings increased by $338.6 million to a record $7.92 billion in 2015, according to annual figures from the Standard Media Index.

Digital was the fastest growing media with bookings up 20.3% to $1.81bn. TV expenditure remained flat, up 0.2% to $3.61bn, and December figures included the first programmatic TV spend from the Seven and SBS TV networks.

Outdoor, radio and cinema media each achieved record results. Outdoor was up 16.2% to $842.3m, radio increased 7.8% to $622.7m and cinema jumped 37.2% to $82.9m.

By product category, automotive largest sector by spend, up 8.7% to $753.8m, followed by retail (up 2.5% to $476.1m) and insurance (up 2% to $460.7m). Travel and public sector advertising were the only categories to report double digit growth.
