Peak industry body the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) has appointed Josh Faulks as its new chief executive officer.

He will take over from interim CEO Julie Flynn in October following an extensive and highly competitive international search process.

“The AANA is in great shape and I’m looking forward to building on its strong foundation to cement its role as a powerful advocate and the voice for advertisers in Australia," Faulks said.

"My immediate priorities will be to protect and strengthen the self-regulatory model, to help members build the capabilities of their teams so they can attract and retain talent, and to bring the industry back together post COVID.”.

He joins the AANA from KPMG where he was the national lead of the Reputation Advisory business. He has also worked for more than a decade in senior roles for federal cabinet ministers.

He has also been a senior executive at the ABC, an ASX listed corporation and an industry body.

Chair of the AANA board of directors, Martin Brown, said: “With strong economic headwinds and media fragmentation accelerating, now more than ever, Australian brands need a strong unified voice.

"Josh is a proven leader who is extremely well placed to revitalise the AANA to be that voice at a particularly challenging and important time for our industry.”

The board of the AANA also acknowledged and thanked Julie Flynn for her contribution as interim CEO.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Julie for her tireless and effective leadership as interim CEO,” Brown said.
