Time in current role/time at the company

6 months

How long have you been in the industry?

5 years
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I’ve always been passionate about being in the marketing industry - it was always my plan. Like most fresh graduates, I was super keen to get my foot in the door and, to my surprise, I was offered a role as an Account Executive at a tech firm quite quickly. I had very little clue as to what I was doing, I just knew that I wanted to be in a marketing role. A year later, I was recruited for my first creative agency gig at Orchard and never looked back. I realized my potential and what I could bring to the table.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

I’ve had the pleasure to learn from many talented people in the industry but to name a few - Sakina Flory from DDB, Matt Nelson from Designlogic and my current beast of a GAD, Gemma Geraint. Working under women in leadership is important to me as it makes me see what I could be in the future.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The trends in the digital and social industry are always changing and evolving, which keeps things interesting. These trends then influence the ideas that come and inspire campaigns we create.

And the biggest challenge?

A lack of time - I always seem to run out of time to complete my tasks! A big one for the advertising industry as a whole would be the lack of representation of POC. We’re seeing a lot more women in leadership roles which I love, but this still needs to extend into more men AND women of colour.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

My goals keep evolving with me as I grow and get to know myself better. I’ve wanted to be a GAD... a Social Creative… I
think ultimately I’d like to own an agency where I can build my own team.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

I listen to great podcasts and watch content from trailblazers in the industry and world leaders. Dare to Lead is a podcast I’d highly recommend for anyone starting out. I also have a playlist that I’ve curated to motivate me to be the best version of myself. Cheesy I know!

My favourite advert is (and why):

Did someone say KFC? Absolutely brilliant. Not only is this a great advert, but it became a cultural phenomenon here in Australia. Not to mention it got me out of many awkward situations.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I love mixing songs and I used to be in a band a couple of years ago.

In five years I'll be

Too hard to say! I’ll be in a different city for sure, perhaps New York. I’ll be creating content and working on setting up my own business.
