Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Olivia Rimac: Marketing executive at Murmur Group.

Time in current role/time at the company:
1 year and 8 months.

How long have you been in the industry?
1 year and 8 months.

I began working at Murmur Group whilst also studying part-time at Universtiy. I began my role at Murmur as an intern for 3 months, then was promoted to Junior marketing executive and now marketing executive.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
I placed a lot of pressure on myself in my second year of University to find an internship in order to gain first-hand experience within the industry, and after searching for a while I found a position available at Murmur Group and I have been here ever since.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
My managing director, Dave Levett has been my go-to person to turn to for guidance and advice. Dave definitely took a chance on me, hiring me whilst still studying at University and with zero experience, yet throughout this entire process, he has
constantly challenged and encouraged me to have a go at all things marketing.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The great thing about working in Marketing is the relationships, networking and friendships you make along the way. Working at a marketing agency specifically allows me to work alongside a broad range of clients for various companies and industries
including beauty, sports, food, beverage, drink, clothing industry and more.

And the biggest challenge?
Most definitely the preconceived notions about marketing and how “easy” it is. Marketing is certainly not an easy job and is a very tedious process of strategy, media and creativity all coming into play.
My favourite advert is:

There is something very nostalgic about the Cadbury Roadtrip advertisement that I love and always reminds me of my childhood. Who wouldn’t want to live in a world made of chocolate?

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
One day I would ideally love to work overseas, hopefully somewhere in Europe, working for a small or large company that dabbles in marketing or PR. My even bigger goal would to be start my own marketing or PR company.

Where do you turn for inspiration?
Although I hate to admit it, I turn to TikTok for inspiration. In my opinion, TikTok is a great creative platform that pushes the boundaries of standard creative media.

In five years' time I'll be:
I will still be working within the marketing and PR space, either for a small to medium company or starting to begin my own company. I believe there is always room for improvement and opportunity to grow in any scenario and the best way to achieve that
is to jump into the deep end.
