Adap.tv has hired Deshan Kumar as its new sales director for the Australia New Zealand region.

He joins immediately, and Adap.tv said in a statement that with an increased focus on programmatic buying, his number crunching skills are vital.

"We needed someone with the ambition of an excellent sales person, but we also needed someone numerate, with a strong understanding of data-driven advertising," Adap.tv's Australian managing director Mitch Waters said.

"We've found that in Deshan and we're excited to have him on board."

Adap.tv said more than $100 billion is spent on programmatic buying worldwide, and the ANZ region had strong growth potential over the next few years.

Kumar comes to the role with six years experience at carsales.com, where he was acting head of sales.

The AOL-owned company is currently ramping up its ONE platform, a cross-screen programmatic advertising platform for brands, agencies, and publishers.
