Movers & Shakers: Clemenger, Initiative, Publicis

It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out the biggest moves in adland this week.

Clemenger Group expands Chris Howatson's role
Chris Howatson has been named CEO of Clemenger Group's Australian agencies, in addition to his current role as CEO of CHE Proximity. The new role will see him lead Clemenger Group's new division Clemenger Agency Brands which includes CHE Proximity, Clemenger BBDO, Clemenger Brisbane and Levo. Clemenger Group chair Robert Morgan says Howatson has the right "energy" to front the transformation across all of its agencies. "Chris Howatson has demonstrated incredible energy, foresight, determination and flair to build CHE Proximity into one of the world’s great new age creative agencies," Morgan says. "I know he will take on these new responsibilities with the same energy to lead the customer transformation across our other agencies.”

Anthony Fitzgerald joins Tonic Health board
Former MCN CEO Anthony Fitzgerald has joined the board of health and wellbeing network Tonic Health Media. Fitzgerald was previously Multi Channel Network’s chief executive for 15 years after joining from the Seven Network in 2003, after more than 18 years as Seven’s director of sales. He exited the Foxtel sales house prior to the news that Network Ten and MCN would be ending its sales representation deal. Tonic Health stated that the appointment of Fitzgerald will help the business continue its expansion in the market.

Initiative hires ex-UM strategy director
Initiative Australia has appointed Chris Colter to the role of national strategy director. Colter had been working at IPG Mediabrands' and Initiative sister agency, UM, heading up strategy out of its Sydney office. During his time with UM, Colter became known for his work on the Tourism Australia account and was a key member of the Dundee campaign team. He will report to chief strategy officer Sam Geer, who was appointed to the role last year. As part of the new role Colter will also lead strategy for Carlsberg across APAC.

McCann names new CCO and MD
McCann Sydney has named Darren Spiller as chief creative officer and Hazelle Klønhammer as managing director. Spiller has previously work at Host and DDB Melbourne, as well as in the US at ad agency Fallon. Also joining the McCann team is co-founder of Ugly, Klønhammer, who has also co-founded and headed up Anomaly Amsterdam and worked at Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam for more than a decade. Alongside the announcement, McCann Sydney revealed ECD Jerker Fagerstrom has decided to leave the agency to return to Sweden.

World Vision Australia CMO exits
Not-for-profit organisation World Vision Australia has revealed its chief marketing officer Teresa Sperti has decided to exit the organisation. Sperti had been with the charity since 2017, after joining from Officeworks where she had been heading up its CRM and digital marketing division. During her time with World Vision, Sperti had been responsible for developing a "highly engaged, high-performing team", with overall engagement improving 25% during her tenure. Zane Kuramoto will be acting chief marketing, data and product officer for World Vision Australia while the organisation begins its search for Sperti's replacement.

Publicis Sapient moves deeper into product engineering
Publicis Groupe's digital transformation hub, Publicis Sapient is investing in its product engineering capability announcing the appointment of Ben Moir as director of product engineering. Moir is a fully qualified electrical engineer with 20 years industry experience. Most recently, he was the founder, director and lead engineer at Snepo Research where for 13 years he worked with emerging technology and directly consulted to enterprise clients. He worked with clients including Lend Lease, CBA, Westfield, Audi, Virgin Mobile and SBS. He has also been recognised for his work, winning awards at Cannes Lion, London Internation and New York Festivals.

Sweetshop grows team
Sweetshop has appointed Greg Fyson as executive producer in its Sydney-based office. Fyson joins the team with over 12 years experience, previously working with as a producer at 72andSunny, Saatchi & Saatchi. BMF and Rabbit Content, as well as executive producing at Blockhead. He has worked with brands including Toyota, Cadbury, Google and eBay. Fyson will work alongside fellow executive producer Llew Griffiths and report to managing director Edward Pontifex.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne promotes Freya Page
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has promoted Freya Page to group business director. In her new role, Page will continue to lead the NAB account where she played a key role on comms, leading the Mini Legends campaigns and the development of the More than Money brand platform.. She will also take on Tennis Australia's brand strategy project and roll out of work for the ATP Cup and Australian Open. Prior to her four year tenure with Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, Page has stints at RKCR/Y&R and Dare in London.

MediaCom elevates biddable director   
MediaCom has promoted biddable director Ryan Goldsworthy to biddable group director. Goldsworthy has been with the business for a year, based in the Sydney office. He now leads the agency’s biddable and programmatic activity across a broader client portfolio, expanding to include Victorian-based clients. MediaCom says his promotion comes following is thought leadership across search and social which has resulted in the improvement of the agency’s search excellence scores nationally.

Nerio Communications makes senior appointment
Strategic marketing and communications agency Nerio Communications has appointed senior communications specialist, Emma Kirkaldy as head of strategic development. Kirkaldy joins the team after relocating to Canberra from Sydney where spent five years as general manager of boutique agency Polkadot Communications. She brings over 25 years experience to the team working across strategic communications in agencies and organisations in the UK and Australia. 

Half Dome's new head of client service
Independent digital agency Half Dome has appointed Jackie King to the role of head of client service. King brings 14 years of industry experience from both Melbourne and New York with her. She joins the team from Carat where she was the digital director on the Disney account.
